President Message

It gives me great honour to write this message in the Sentul Methodist Boys’ School Old Boys’ Association’s Website.

It gives me even greater honour that through this website we shall be able to reach all of our past students, wherever they may be situated in this world, to reminisce through the digitised magazines from 1951 as well as past Dinner and Anniversary publications of the school as well as the Association.

We also hope, through the website it might be possible for us create a platform through which you might be able to re-engage with your classmates and school friends.

In order for us to create the necessary links it would be necessary for you to provide some basic information about yourself so that we may be able to convey messages that may be meant for you while at the same time maintaining some basic privacy you might require.

We hope that you will help to viral the establishment of your website to others so that we shall have the desired reach and activity.

Thank you

Patron Message

It is indeed with great pleasure that I write this message that, I am told, shall be permanently on display on the new website that is to be launched by the Sentul Methodist School Old Boys’ Association. This website will serve to boost our presence and promotion of the affairs of former students and the school. This platform can enable the fostering of a sense of belonging and identity besides keeping abreast of the development of the school. The school magazines from 1951 have been digitised and accessible to the school’s diaspora of students who, I believe, are spread out all over the world.

The potential benefits of community engagement cannot be underestimated for generating career advancements, business opportunities, networking and what other derivatives that may come from this social media. Indeed if in the past the disengagement that follows the end of school has seen friendships lost, today’s media enables reestablishment of those ties as well as maintaining life long linkages between friends who have had a common educational heritage. I do hope this website will provide you those opportunities.

In a way, it is with regret I learn that the socio-economic demography of the student population continues to reflect the Sentul we knew it to be. Even though high value condominiums surround the school today, MBS Sentul continues to receive and continues to serve the less financially endowed within the community.

Furthermore, with the ensuing closure of the Primary School, a greater number of the students coming into Form 1 will be from the surrounding vernacular schools and primary schools located further away.  Nevertheless, the service demands to bring all these students to par and to prepare them for their future ahead falls not just on the school and its teachers. It also falls on all of us who have this link to Sentul.

Despite all the limitations of the Pandemic years, it was indeed happy news that the 2021 batch of SPM students gave the best results in over 20 years. I am told that some old boys of the school were instrumental in getting laptops and other means for some students who needed them. The School itself, with the lead provided by the Headmistress, Mdm Koek @ Kuek Chu Hiang, has seen some structural improvements that give great pride to the students attending the school.

I am reminded of my humble beginnings in Sentul alongside a lot of others who remain friends to this day. I am ever thankful to the Headmasters and Teachers of my day who guided me to pass my GCE by the age of 15. If I have seen success in my professional career, so have others who have walked through the corridors of MBS Sentul. I would like to take this opportunity to invite other alumni to also contribute in whatever way to the community that you came from.

As old boys of the School, we all have a common affinity to MBS Sentul. Through the Old Boys Association that affinity can be reflected in declaring our stake in the School and the Education that it delivers. We all have our opinions about education in the country. But individually we will not be heard. But the Association is a platform from which your voice can be sounded from. The President and two other members of the committee are represented in the School’s Board of Governors. The Association is now also a member of the Federation of Methodist School Alumni Associations of Malaysia. Together we can make a positive contribution to advancing education, especially to the community that desperately needs it.

I am told this website is intended to bring all alumni together in a single platform. It certainly can be inspirational not just for past students, but also the present students as well as the Sentul community. It is important for those still struggling socio-economically in this community that there is hope for them. I hope this message will reverberate and continue to give hope and inspiration to all.

As I launch this website, it is hoped that it will serve its intended purpose and more of you will want to contribute towards making our alma mater one we shall all be proud of.
